![]() We all dream about our wedding day; from making bridal boxes as children to creating Pinterest boards full of inspiration. When the time comes, suddenly dreams become reality and what started out as a fun and exciting process can quickly become a stressful and expensive one. From being a fairly relaxed, happy person we become the bridezilla of all bridezillas; we start to organise things down to the tiniest detail and walk through our wedding days a thousand times before it happens to make sure the day will run perfectly. At this point we need to stop, take a deep breath and really think…who are you actually planning this wedding for? For you and your fiancé or everyone else? If you have to pause to think about this then stop, take a bigger breath and think again. It is your day - have a wedding that you will actually enjoy organising and more importantly you will enjoy on the day. Less is more is a good mantra when planning your day. Reducing your guest list means your close friends and family will be your guests so there should be nobody to impress and nobody to judge (or so we would hope!) Your wedding day should be full of fun, laughter and love. Think about if you were attending your best friend’s wedding - would you judge them if they decided not to spend hours making tiny pots of jam as favours? Probably not. If this is the case, then do yourself a favour (rather than making them) and keep it simple. This is where we step in. The Pilgrims Rest in East Sussex is a 600 year old, licenced wedding venue in the heart of East Sussex. We have designed and furnished it so that it needs little decoration. With vintage decanters and wine buckets and stands for your wine; wood for the fires and pewter candlesticks and candles for the lime-washed trestle tables; benches and furs for the ceremony and Chivari chairs for dining we have tried to think of everything to make your day as simple and affordable for you as possible. Each season we decorate the venue and create seasonal looks to help keep costs down. You can set up the afternoon before the wedding giving you the whole day to enjoy yourself. We have created a whole floor especially for the bridal party to get ready in the morning complete with a bottle of bubbly to start the day. We do not charge corkage so that you can have great wine and your own bar if you choose. We offer couples the flexibility to have a wedding just how they want it and the choice to make it their own. We work with some amazing local caterers ! As well as caterers we have a tried and tested list of amazing Sussex suppliers - from florists to photographers, D.J’s to harpists. With less stress, less cost and less hassle your wedding will be more relaxed, more enjoyable and more fun. When it comes to planning your wedding - less really is more. ![]() In the last month, we have been exploring how to achieve significant savings when it comes to planning your wedding. We thought we would take it a step further and produce a wedding guide on how to keep wedding costs down. The Wedding Dress: Every girl dreams of their wedding dress however the dream dress does not have to cost the earth. Many large charity shops now offer a bridal range which includes second hand wedding dresses priced 75% less of what you would normally pay for a brand-new dress. When visiting The Cancer Research Shop in Eastbourne and the Delmeza Shop in Canterbury, we were so impressed by the quality and the designer dresses we found. The Guest List: Stay true to the saying, ‘As you get older you can count your true friends on one hand.’ Try to keep the guest list to close family and friends. If you can, keep the children at home, it’s a nice treat for the parents to have a child free weekend and let their hair down. Catering: Keep the catering simple and relaxed. Create large sharing platters, cold buffets, or a simple BBQ. Everyone loves good wholesome food at a wedding. Keeping the food simple and delicious creates a great atmosphere amongst guests. Use big wooden or slate boards to present the food plus creating a beautiful table centrepiece at the same time. Bar: Avoid the expensive drink packages. At The Pilgrims Rest we do not charge corkage and are happy for you to bring your own alcohol and drinks. Create a fun bar with all your favourite drinks and cocktails. Personalise it to you and your party. Keep an eye out for the great deals in the supermarkets. Wedding Cake: Bake your own wedding cake or if you’re not that great in the kitchen, Marks & Spencer’s have a wide range of plain wedding cakes available. Just add your own personal touch such as fresh flowers. Weddings can become expensive but there are plenty of ways to make sure you have the best day without it costing a fortune. At The Pilgrims Rest we have tried to eliminate these costs by offering a dry hire price but with a great deal of extras. With exclusive use, no corkage charge and no hidden extras, our unique, licensed venue gives you choice and flexibility to create your perfect day. To find out how you can have your exclusive venue and enjoy significant savings, please contact us on 07552873448 or venue@pilgrimsrestbattle.co.uk. We are holding a wedding open day on Sunday 9th December 2018, book your appointment today.
