There are many elements to a great wedding from the ‘I Do’ to the wedding breakfast however once all the formalities are over it’s all about letting your hair down and having a great party. A great party needs a great DJ which brings me on to Dean at Kestrel Events.
Dean, where did your love for music and becoming a DJ come from? Music has been a huge part of my life from a very early age. This has helped me to appreciate many different genres, bands, and artists. The love for the eclectic side of music has stayed with me and it's an artform that I produce in my DJing. I've been entertaining partygoers at various venues in Sussex, Surrey, and London and the surrounding areas for over 15 years. What do you love most about being a DJ? For me one of the most satisfying achievements as a DJ is the crowd reaction as music connects with many memories or feelings. The greatest effect is when the track is unexpected. I love being able to create those great memories on the dancefloor. A proactive approach to song selection comes only from years of experience of reading the crowd. What is your top tip to for creating a great party atmosphere on the dancefloor? The most important tip for couples is creating a playlist that reflects them and their guests. I work closely with my couples making sure we put a playlist together that brings back memories plus creating memories. I play a vast selection of music, selecting the songs you want to hear and most of all avoiding the ones you don’t want to hear. I want to ensure your party experience is delivered your way. Recently, Kestrel Events played at The Pilgrims Rest and was fantastic. The dancefloor was always full and the atmosphere was electric all night. DIY weddings can be a lot work on the day, when all you really want to do is enjoy the day yourself. We have put some useful tips together that if followed will allow you to sit back, relax and enjoy your wedding day.
KEEP FOOD SIMPLE Stick to simple food such as rustic buffets or sharing boards where you can prep and plate food before the big day and put it in the cold room ready for serving. This will save time on the day and stop you being stuck in the kitchen when you should be sipping bubbles and mingling with your guests. PREPERATION IS KEY If you have dietary requirements make sure these are plated and labelled prior to the day so they can be given to the correct guests. DECORATING THE VENUE Decorating the venue can take a long time. To save getting stress, keep decorations simple… as they say, ‘less is more’. Try to come to the venue with all the decorations made, so you can just put them straight out, rather than making it at the venue. This will save time and enable you to spend the night before with your bridesmaids, having a fun evening rather than worrying about being ready for the big day. STAFFING It’s important to allocate jobs to people prior to the day and make sure everyone is clear on what and when they are doing their jobs. This will save a lot of questions and confusion. If you can hire a couple of young adults to work on your wedding day. They can make sure drinks are ready for when the ceremony has finished plus put the food out ready for guests to tuck in. If you would rather your family help then make sure you spread the work load and don’t just expect one or two members to do everything. Assign specific jobs to each member and make sure timings are clear. This allows family, friends and most importantly yourselves to enjoy the day without having to worry. CLEARING UP There are many companies that hire out crockery, glassware, and cutlery and the best part they take it away dirty, so no washing up! Hurrah!! It’s been a busy August at The Pilgrims Rest, with our first three gorgeous weddings taking place. All three weddings opted for the DIY wedding but each with a different twist.
Vintage Tea Wedding On 31st July, we celebrated Laura & John’s beautiful vintage tea wedding. Laura & John collected all their own vintage crockery from local antique shops, charity shops and boot fairs. They created a stunning archway that was placed in the Great Hall which formed the perfect backdrop for the wedding ceremony. Full of green foliage and decorated with fairy lights, mini vintage tea cups & polaroid photos, it was a great personal touch. The weeks leading up to the wedding Laura was very busy making her own bunting that covered the beams in the dining room. Both Laura and John worked so hard to create their dream wedding and what a fabulous vintage day it was. Pagan Wedding Stephanie & Owen’s wedding was next on 28th August. The sun shone brightly for their magical pagan ceremony in the walled courtyard of The Pilgrims Rest. Stephanie and Owen used dried flowers from peonies to lavender to decorate the venue. Rows of hops hung from the beams of the dining room to the stairs and fireplace in The Great Hall. The hops looked incredible and added to The Pilgrims Rest rustic charm. Stephanie & Owen continued the Pagan Beliefs throughout and created an enchanting day. A Rustic & Homegrown Wedding Finally, Jo & Matthew’s stunning rustic wedding on 31st August. Everything homemade or homegrown from garden flowers to vegetables. Homemade rustic sour-dough bread presented on slate boards. Herbs from the garden such as fennel, rosemary and sage used as decoration and centre pieces for the day. The day was elegant and relaxed with a great atmosphere. All the best things are kept simple… ‘less is more’. We are delighted that our three couples shared their day with us at The Pilgrims Rest and it was so lovely to see The Pilgrims Rest open her doors to these beautiful weddings. Huge Congratulations to you all! X Wedding photos coming soon... we can't wait to share these on our website.
