We do not offer an empty venue. Instead, we have thought about what we can include to make your wedding day as beautiful and cost effective as possible. As the seasons change, our design team creates a new seasonal look for the building. All seasonal decorations are removable.
The venue itself is a two storey 600 year old Wealden Hall House steeped in history. With its stunning, vaulted Great Hall in the centre of the building this is the first space your guests will see. Off the Great Hall to one side is the Webster Bar and the other, the Dining Room. Above the Dining Room you will find the Bryant Rooms - a suite of rooms to get ready and above the Webster Bar, The newly completed Fitzherbert dressing room.
At The Pilgrims Rest there are no hidden costs - just lots of extras. We include: Exclusive use of The Pilgrims Rest and its gardens for your wedding day. A member of our wedding team to offer advice and support on the run up to your wedding. A member of our wedding team to be at The Pilgrims Rest to ensure the safety of you and your guests on the day. Access to our little black book of talented, Sussex suppliers from caterers to florists; photographers to musicians - all of whom are familiar with the building and fully insured. The choice of self catering your wedding if you have friends and family who are a dab hand in the kitchen. No corkage charges. A bottle of bubbly for the wedding party while they get ready.
The Bryant Rooms A suite of rooms with separate bathroom for the bridal party available from 8.30 am for changing, hair and make up and pre-wedding photographs. The Bryant Rooms comprises a dressing room, a kitchen and bathroom for the bridal party and a stunning oak panelled sitting room.
The Dressing Room - A beautiful dressing room with views towards the Abbey complete with vintage dressing tables, mirrors and chaise longues.
The Panelled Room - A fully panelled room complete with inglenook fireplace, a window seat, furnished with two large antique "throne" chairs for pre and post wedding photographs.
There is also a separate kitchen with tea and coffee facilities and a bottle of bubbly for the bridal party. A private bathroom is situated next door.
The Fitzherbert Dressing Room The Fitzherbert room is our new second dressing room making it possible for both halves of the wedding party to get ready under the same roof, but still separate enough to maintain the element of surprise. A great place to get ready but also the perfect pre-wedding backdrop for photographs with vintage velvet armchairs, antique gramophone player, fireplace and books galore - not forgetting a bottle of bubbly on ice. Our photographers love it and means that one photographer can work across both rooms without the need for a second photographer. Who gets ready where is entirely down to you!
The Great Hall Your wedding ceremony is conducted in the Great Hall which seats up to 60 guests seated. During your meal the Great Hall is quietly cleared ready for dancing, accommodating up to a further 40 evening guests*. This stunning vaulted room with its inglenook fire, crown post and oak floors comes furnished with:

Table and chairs for the registrars.
Seasonal garlands and pea lights over the inglenook fireplace and staircase.
Wood for the fire.

The Dining Room With inglenook fire, beamed ceilings and oak floors this beautiful room is furnished with:

The Webster Bar Situated just off the Great Hall this cosily furnished bar complete with open fire and beams. Whether you choose a cash bar or open bar, the Webster Bar is set up to serve your guests pre and post ceremony drinks and includes:

Hops and pealights over the fireplace.
Triple glass drinks dispenser and stand.
Candlesticks and candles.
Views of the Abbey.
The Gardens The Pilgrims Rest was the Maison Dieu to Battle Abbey and is situated right next door.
The front, cottage garden with the Abbey gatehouse as a backdrop is perfect for wedding photographs.
The sunny, walled garden to the rear of the property is furnished with french garden tables and chairs.
English Heritage can arrange for your wedding party to have further photographs taken in the grounds of the Abbey and it's stunning ruins for a small fee.
A long, walled lane next to The Pilgrims Rest leads to a pretty field.
Catering Facilities The Pilgrims Rest has a catering area off the Webster Bar and also a separate outside catering facility for preparation.

We offer three options (not packages) for you listed below - The Bells and Whistles Wedding, The Less is More Wedding and our new Micro Wedding. No matter which wedding you choose, our wedding team will ensure your day goes without a hitch. (* Please note that the Micro and Less is More wedding has limited numbers).
The Bells and Whistles Wedding: Up to 60 for the ceremony and dining with a further 40 evening guests. Access for setting up on the afternoon the day before the event. Arrive from 8.30am on the day of the wedding to get ready. Carriages at 11.45pm. The Pilgrims Rest to be vacated by midnight. Return the following morning to remove any decorations etc. We keep a day either side to ensure you have plenty of time to set up the afternoon before and collect any decorations the following morning. We ask that caterers and suppliers set up the afternoon before the wedding day. This ensures a calm and relaxed atmosphere on the morning of the wedding for the bridal party to enjoy getting ready.
The Less is More Wedding: We can put our tables together to make a huge dining table which seats thirty guests. Our Less is More Wedding is for the wedding day only for 30 guests or less (to include the couple). Arrive from 9.00 am in the morning to get ready. Carriages at 8.00 pm for guests The Pilgrims Rest to be vacated (including decorations and personal items) by 9.00 pm
The Micro Wedding: A new offer for weddings up to 15 (to include the couple) for weddings from October 2020 to end of January 2021 Our new Micro Wedding is for the wedding day only and tailored for new government restrictions. Currently drinks receptions must be held seated at the table. The town of Battle: The Pilgrims Rest is located in the beautiful, historic town of Battle. There is local overnight parking and a choice of accommodation, both within walking distance of The Pilgrims Rest. Battle train station is a 10 minute walk away and there are a number of local taxi services. There is a good selection of restaurants, pubs and cafes and many interesting shops in the town.
