What do we include in the venue hire? It would be much easier to tell you what isn't! The Pilgrims Rest is essentially a dry hire venue, but one with a difference. Rather than offering a blank space where everything needs to be hired in to make it sing, we have carefully designed and furnished the building to do just that.
Three times a year, our professional styling team creates a new seasonal look for the building so that it needs little decoration. We are constantly improving the venue and adding little extras to help make your day as relaxed, and affordable, as possible. Do have a look at the beautiful photos on our Seasonal Looks page.
All weddings have exclusive use of The Pilgrims Rest for your day. Unlike many dry hire venues, a member of our wedding team will be there on the morning of your wedding day; first on site lighting the fires and candles and last to leave, ensuring the safety of you and your guests.
Friendly and highly knowledgeable, the team will be on hand to offer you advice when planning your wedding and on the run up to the day itself.
The Great Hall. Licensed for ceremonies, the Great Hall comes furnished with rustic benches and a choice of our Mongolian faux fur rugs or pretty boho rugs for your ceremony. Safety candles for the chandeliers and hand painted lanterns are included along with wood for the fire. Our seasonal decorations with garlands and pea-lights galore up the staircase and over the fireplace are all part of the venue hire with no extra charge.
The Dining Room. Triple aspect with inglenook fireplace, high beamed ceilings and oak floors, this beautiful room comes furnished with wide, lime washed trestle tables and Chivari chairs seating up to 50. You will find plenty of wood for the fire, pewter candlesticks and candles for the tables. Vintage wine decanters, wine buckets and stands are included as well as our seasonal look to include garlands and pea-lights above the fireplace. Above the tables you will also find seasonal decorations complete with tea-lights holders. Any decorations can be removed by request if you prefer.
The Gardens. The Pilgrims Rest has two gardens - a sunny walled garden to the rear of the property and the front cottage gardens with views of the Abbey - perfect for confetti and group wedding photographs. We provide a selection of french metal garden tables and folding chairs. Smoking is allowed in the front garden where ashtrays are provided. Being in a medieval town, there are lots of photo opportunities near to the venue plus a walled lane leading to a field (complete with sunset). For a small charge English Heritage also allows private access to the magnificent Abbey ruins which make breathtaking backdrops for photographs.
The Webster Bar. Situated just off The Great Hall, this cosy rustic bar with its oak beams and views of the Abbey can be set up to serve your guests pre (and post) ceremony drinks. The bar comes with a rustic serving bar, drinks fridge, bar tables and chairs, candlesticks and candles for the tables, hops and pea-lights over the bar, shelving for glasses and champagne baths and drinks dispensers. Wood for the open fire is also provided as well as a freezer for ice storage. You have a choice of either stocking your own bar or hiring in a bar company - either way, we do not charge any corkage.
The Bryant Rooms. Hidden behind an ancient door in the Dining Room is the entrance to a suite of upstairs rooms available for changing and pre-ceremony photographs.
The Bryant Dressing Room, with views towards the Abbey is beautifully furnished to include vintage dressing tables and mirrors, a large dressing mirror, antique chaise longues and rugs. The sitting room next door is oak panelled with a fireplace and window seat. Elegantly furnished with antiques and faux furs allowing plenty of room for pre-wedding photographs.
There is also a pretty kitchen with tea & coffee making facilities. Next door is a private bathroom - you need a surprising amount of room in a wedding dress so this one is not for your guests!
The Fitzherbert Dressing Room. Two are better than one! The Pilgrims Rest has a second dressing room on the opposite side of the Great Hall. The two rooms make it possible for both halves of the wedding party to get ready under the same roof, but still separate enough to maintain the vital element of surprise. A great place to get ready, but also a rich backdrop for photographs before or after the ceremony. With vintage velvet armchairs, antique gramophone player, dressing mirror, fireplace and books galore, the Fitzherbert Room is a photographer’s dream. Having two dressing rooms under one roof means a single photographer can capture couples getting ready, without the need of a costly second shooter.
Catering Facilities. The Pilgrims Rest has a simple catering area with preparation tables and storage facilities. The rear walled garden is a lovely sheltered area if you choose to have a barbecue or hog roast. There are some excellent local catering and prop hire companies who have worked at The Pilgrims Rest many times. They can deliver and collect anything you would like to hire from vintage crockery to barbecues.
