We have designed The Pilgrims Rest to help you create an incredible wedding that is also affordable. We simply provide a beautiful, exclusive use wedding venue with no corkage charges, no fixed suppliers and lots and lots of added extras.
You can choose your own caterers and suppliers, or even do the whole thing yourselves with the help of friends and family. Alternatively you might prefer to use some local suppliers from our “Tried, tested and trusted” list. The list has been put together by our experienced wedding team who will happily offer advice and a little hand holding while planning your wedding and also be there on the day itself.
On the day of your wedding, a member of our team will have our two dressing rooms, the Bryant and Fitzherbert Rooms, ready for your arrival. Furnished with antique and vintage pieces, the dressing rooms are located on opposite sides of the Great Hall meaning you can both get ready under the same roof, but also separately. The panelled sitting room in the Bryant Rooms, in addition to the dressing rooms is a great backdrop for pre-ceremony photographs.
The Pilgrims Rest is a rare example of a Wealden Hall House built in 1420. In its centre sits the Great Hall. With its vaulted ceilings, a huge inglenook fireplace, oak floors and ancient pargetting walls, the Great Hall is a very special place to make your vows. It can comfortably seat up to 50 on rustic benches with a choice of faux fur or bohemian rugs.
After the ceremony, you and your guests can enjoy your drinks reception in the pretty cottage and walled gardens. As the evenings draw in or the heavens open (it is England after all!), you can congregate in front of the fire in the cosy Webster Bar. We do not charge corkage giving you the choice to have a bar company, provide your own drinks or perhaps a Pimms or gin and tonic station?
To one side of The Great Hall is the Dining Room. Complete with oak floors, beams and linenfold doors, the Dining Room can seat up to 50 guests with a choice of table layouts. We provide vintage decanters and wine buckets and pewter candlesticks and candles for the tables, wood for the fires and plenty more added extras, this is a warm and twinkly dining space.
If you would like to dance later on, our team will quietly set up The Great Hall while you dine, or you may prefer to settle down, open some port and chat into the evening. If you decide to don your dancing shoes, The Pilgrims Rest can hold 90 guests in total.
To help keep your costs down a little we design and style the venue seasonally and include these decorations, including pea-lights and garlands in both the Great Hall and the Dining Room, in the venue hire price (These can be removed if you prefer). Everything you see when you view the building is included, leaving you to add your own personal touches or go completely wild - the choice is yours!
