Finding a truly magical wedding venue....

Are you looking to have a magical wedding where you can tie the knot with fires crackling and fairy lights twinkling in the background?  If so, then you may well fall in love with The Pilgrims Rest, a beautiful Wealden Hall house nestled next to Battle Abbey in the heart of East Sussex.  Nearly 600 years old, The Pilgrims Rest is full of rustic charm and historic soul.
 
As well as being a stunning building with its medieval vaulted Great Hall, it also boasts three working inglenook fireplaces, ancient beams, linenfold doors and oak floors. With all the advantages of a dry hire venue (with no fixed suppliers or corkage charges) it is about as far removed from an empty building as you could find. 
 
The Pilgrims Rest has been designed to need little extra decoration; The Great Hall is furnished with benches and furs for the ceremony alongside safety church candles; the Dining Room with wide, lime washed trestle tables and Chivari chairs.  You will find a selection of pewter candlesticks on the tables (with real candles) and plenty of wood for the fires.  Vintage decanters, wine buckets, a cake table and rustic stand are there if you would like to use them.   
 
The bridal changing rooms with its vintage dressing tables and chaise longues are perfect for pre-wedding photographs (a further changing room will be completed by the end of February). The Webster Bar has another huge open fire with pea-lights and hops and the rustic bar comes with champagne baths, a drinks fridge and drinks dispensers for Pimms or fresh lemonade.
 
The Great Hall staircase and fireplaces are decorated with elegant garlands and pea-lights (which can be used or stored away if you prefer).  At the beginning of each season, our design team adds a new seasonal look.  In October we chose a cosy Autumnal feel with elements of burnt orange, dried oak leaves and vintage books; in December we foraged and decorated hazel twigs, hanging them above the tables with pretty decorations and tea-lights. 
 
We have found that couples add small, finishing touches to make it their own.  Many choose to add nothing at all.  Either way it means that having a beautiful wedding without spending a fortune is a possibility and alleviate some of the trials and tribulations of organising a wedding.  No matter what the season, The Pilgrims Rest is a perfect all year round venue for your wedding - we just like to help you make it a magical one.
